The secret’s out: How to reverse aging AND solve the national healthcare crisis at the same time!
Health Frauds just shared this timely article of a chiropractor going into the business of water....not ordinary water, but ionized alkaline water. He claims that this water could singlehandedly solve the healthcare crisis in our country. That was easy! :)

Doctor of Chiropractic reveals primary cause of Chronic Headache and Back Pain
Dr. Daniel Bettiol is leaving the profession of chiropractic to pursue his clinically-tested belief that the primary causative factor in headaches, neck & low back pain is dehydration of the tissues and the inability to eliminate accumulated metabolic wastes from the body.
While treating over 3,500 patients and delivering over 120,000 chiropractic adjustments, Dr. Bettiol observed that over 90% of his patients were inadequately hydrated. ..His extensive research has shown that tap, bottled, charcoal-filtered, distilled and reverse osmosis water is not the ideal water for long-term health and healing. “America has ignored the miraculous healing being experienced by the Koreans and Japanese with Ionized Alkaline Water," says Bettiol...That would not only eliminate obesity, chronic pain and the need for useless medication, surgery & radiation...it would singlehandedly cut our annual $1.5 trillion health care costs by 90%."
According to his referenced website, Truth About Water Healing, aging, obesity and all chronic diseases, including diabetes, constipation, arthritis, gout, cancer, osteoporosis and even wrinkles, are caused “by the accumulation of non-disposed acidic wastes within our body....The best way to get rid of acidic wastes through urine is to drink alkaline water.” Coincidentally, we just examined the health benefits of alkaline, ionized water being sold to consumers, which he, too, claims:
Alkaline, ionized water acts as a powerful and natural antioxidant....Millions of dollars are spent on the antioxidants vitamins A, C and E yet millions again are spent on buying bottled water that is over 100 times more acidic than regular water and which is unable to be ionized because all the essential alkalizing minerals have been taken out.
The website says that bottled and city water accelerate the aging process, while alkaline ionized water reverses aging. But what makes this water different? We’re told it’s because it’s alive: “Ionized water from water ionizers is light water. It has a smaller molecular cluster and you can drink it throughout the day......When water is stored for over a day it becomes dead.” Junkfood Science readers will recognize this as vitalism.

If there seem to be more of these alkaline ionizing water companies spouting up [sorry, couldn’t resist] every day, you would be right, but many of the theories they purport are not new. For years, aging has been blamed on our toxic lifestyles and bad foods. And what purportedly makes foods bad is their acidity, we’re told:
Most of the food we like is mainly acidic. Acidic food does not necessarily mean that it tastes acidic, but that the wastes it produces are acidic. Grains and meats are mainly acidic; fruits and vegetables are alkaline. Citric fruits may taste acidic but they are considered to be alkaline because they contain alkaline minerals....Eating processed foods, chemicals, lack of gentle exercise and stress all create an acid buildup....In general, our bodies are out of balance and have become too acidic. Feeling over-tired, weak, restless, frustrated, stiff, overwhelmed, unfocused or confused are often early warning signs that our bodies are no longer able to cope with their toxic overload. A body that is too acidic provides the ideal environment for diseases to manifest and thrive in.
Alkaline neutralizes acid. Drinking alkaline water helps our body dissolve acid wastes and make it easier for the body to dispose of them safely. Since the accumulation of acid wastes is aging, the reduction of acid wastes is reverse aging.
You may have heard of the pH (acid-alkaline) theory for disease. It became so popular several years ago, that medical professionals became involved in trying to help protect consumers, because it is a hoax. Dr. Gabe Mirkin, M.D., associate clinical professor of pediatrics at Georgetown University School of Medicine and board-certified in allergy and immunology, sports medicine, pediatrics, and pediatric immunology wrote this article explaining how all chemical reactions in our body begin with enzymes and for them to work our body naturally maintains a normal range of pH. He explains that the end products of certain foods merely change the acidity or alkalinity of our urine which will have nothing to do with the rest of our body or bloodstream. In other words, the acidity or alkalinity of food doesn’t cause disease or accelerate aging.
His informative article will hopefully offer some reassurance to those concerned about good-bad foods:
Acid/Alkaline Theory of Disease Is Nonsense
Taking calcium or drinking alkaline water does not affect blood acidity. Anyone who tells you that certain foods or supplements make your stomach or blood acidic does not understand nutrition. You should not believe that it matters whether foods are acidic or alkaline, because no foods change the acidity of anything in your body except your urine. Your stomach is so acidic that no food can change its acidity. Citrus fruits, vinegar, and vitamins such as ascorbic acid or folic acid do not change the acidity of your stomach or your bloodstream. An entire bottle of calcium pills or antacids would not change the acidity of your stomach for more than a few minutes.
All foods that leave your stomach are acidic. Then they enter your intestines where secretions from your pancreas neutralize the stomach acids. So no matter what you eat, the food in stomach is acidic and the food in the intestines is alkaline.
You cannot change the acidity of any part of your body except your urine. Your bloodstream and organs control acidity in a very narrow range. Anything that changed acidity in your body would make you very sick and could even kill you. Promoters of these products claim that cancer cells cannot live in an alkaline environment and that is true, but neither can any of the other cells in your body....
It is our lungs and kidneys that maintain the pH in our bodies and blood, not what we eat. Tulane University School of Medicine offers a very simple tutorial on acid-base balance. Blood that’s too acidic or alkaline is seen in critically ill patients, most often when their kidney function or respirations become severely compromised. It’s a medical emergency with very distinct, life-threatening symptoms, not simply subjective and easily-suggestible symptoms, such as “feeling over-tired, weak, restless, frustrated, stiff, overwhelmed, unfocused or confused.”
Beware the nocebo and placebo.
